A question  keeps arising as to how the brumbies got their name there are many answers to that question but here I will give a possible answer

It is quite clear that the brumbies became very prolific in the Snowy Mountains region though that was not the only place it was happening

So I will tell the answer that I was given and that is a very simple story

I understand that back in earlier days a person from the USA was visiting the Snowy Mountains region and saw lots of horses roaming free, just as they did in the USA
He was met by a local person, so he asked the question something like "who are they?" least that is how the local person heard it, and replied "they are the Brumbies"
Now we should all know that there are differences of how we say things in Australia and how Americans say things. Also as the man from the USA was pointing towards the horses, it is not always
possible according to the angle we might be in to exactly see where the fingar is pointed.
So though the man from the USA saw himself pointing to the horses, the local man saw him pointing to a house in the background, where a family called Brumby lived.
Now this could all be true or not so, but often names and words get started from very unknown sources, especially in past history.
I understand though that part of the Brumby family in Australia believes that this is a true story.
There are so many possibilities such as having an aboriginal starting point, then others that it had a North African origin, and yet others a German origin.
Well this is all interesting because the origins of the Brumby family go back to Bavaria in Germany as descended from Teutonic Knights who went to England and from England also came to Australia and elswhere.
As the Brumby family has an English family crest there are those that want to dispute it, but there is a Teutonic Knights crest as well
So out of interest was there a James Brumby (for some have suggested it came from him) living at that property at that time? Could have been.
So as my name is John Robert Brumby I just wanted to tell a story from a Brumby that could be true.
Oh! and yes the Germans were in North Africa.

So I have told you a story from a Brumby perspective that may or may not be true, one thing is certain the brumbies do have our name.

So with our name called Brumby how could we not sponsor a brumby called Pumpkin

We found that it was very easy to sponsor a brumby as it shows up well on the Save the Brumbies Organization website, there is also a place to adopt a brumby for those who have the facilities to do so, and yes there is a place to even give a donation to this wonderful work.

You can donate, sponsor, adopt a brumby or brumbies

Here is our own website as one's who love being a sponsor for Pumpkin at Save the Brumbies Organization

I aknowledge that the source of much of the material in this website comes from the Save the Brumbies Organization
